Howard Tenens Drives Ahead with Low Carbon HGVs

Stroud, Glos. 30th July 2010 : Howard Tenens celebrated the roll out of its Dual Fuel (gas and diesel) HGV fleet at the Guildhall in London as part of the 2010 Cart Marking ceremony. At last year’s event we launched our low carbon transport initiative and presented our first dual fuel vehicle which was put through its paces during a 6 month trial; one year later, with continued investment in our sustainable logistics strategy we now have a dual fuel HGV fleet in place.

Dan Morris Group Property Director presented the Dual Fuel Mercedes Actros for Marking. Howard Tenens, having invested in the technology, has demonstrated the operational performance of the vehicles; it is evident that lower carbon HGVs is a reality now and not just a future concept. To assist with the limited fuelling infrastructure in the UK we have installed a natural gas refuelling station at Andover and have plans for others across the Group. This will help other operators enter the gas vehicle market at lower capital cost. Catherine Crouch, Director of Tenens Environmental said, “Our fleet department and drivers have been fantastic, their interest and support of the technology have been key to making Dual Fuel a success. The feedback we are getting from customers is extremely positive which has added momentum to our sustainable distribution plans.”

Howard Tenens is delighted to announce that it has won the corporate responsibility & sustainability supplier for 2009 awarded by Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc.

On 25 May, Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) held its first Supplier Sustainability Summit and Awards Ceremony in Brussels. The Summit comprised a series of workshops to discuss ideas and opportunities for collaboration between CCE and its suppliers to address sustainability issues.

This was followed by an Awards Ceremony, where CCE’s Chairman and CEO, John Brock, and President of Europe, Hubert Patricot, presented awards to those suppliers who contributed most to the success of the business in 2009.

Stephen Moorhouse, General Manager and Vice President of CCE’s European Supply Chain commented: “2009 was an excellent year for our business in Europe, and we partly owe this success to the strong relationships that we have built with suppliers”

“We have put Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability (CRS) at the heart of our business, and are therefore delighted to present haulage and warehousing supplier, Howard Tenens, with this year’s CRS award. This recognizes their considerable achievements in helping us to reduce our CO2 emissions, through trialling gas-fuelled vehicles, and also in developing a new sustainable warehouse.”

David Cowell, VP Procurement, European Supply Chain said: “We created the annual awards to recognise outstanding supplier achievements and the value they add to our business. We identify the winners through our Supplier Relationship Management Programme, which is managed by the Procurement team. This provides a formalized framework through which we develop joint action plans, and review activities and performance across the core areas of Quality, Service, Value and Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability.”

Stephen Moorhouse added: “This year, we are delighted that as well as recognising our suppliers’ achievements, we were also able to provide a forum to support the development of joint ideas that address sustainability issues.”

Catherine Crouch, Director of Tenens Environmental said, “It is fantastic to receive this CCE Supplier Award in recognition of our Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability performance; in 2009 Howard Tenens made significant investment to maximise warehouse efficiency and introduce alternative fuelled vehicles. We will continue to work in partnership with CCE to achieve the joint objective of reducing the carbon footprint of storing and distributing its products, we plan to build on the achievements to date and continue to develop our sustainable logistics strategy.”
